Wordpress developer, 4+ years of experience

What we’d like you to have:

  • Good communication skills: You’ll be working closely with our design and client services teams to bring client briefs to life. You’ll occasionally be required to liaise directly with clients to provide updates on projects. Being able to communicate effectively on progress to teams and clients, along with highlighting any problems you encounter, means nobody gets an unpleasant surprise.
  • Critical thinking: Whilst we love our clients, they aren’t developers. You may find that there is a better/more efficient solution than outlined in a client brief. We want you to have the confidence in your own ability to be able to suggest improvements and alternative methods rather than blindly following orders.
  • Solid organisational skills: We’re busy. You may find yourself working on multiple projects simultaneously. Being able to manage your time to ensure that no proverbial balls get dropped is a skill you’ll need.

The technical bits:

  • Framework Experience: One of your initial projects when joining the team is developing a bespoke process driven application in a framework, such as Symfony or Laravel. Any experience developing with one of these would be advantageous to your application.
  • WordPress experience: A part of your role will be projects involving WordPress. You therefore need to be comfortable building custom themes, functionality, plugins and deploying sites. If you haven’t got WordPress experience, but strong experience elsewhere, don’t let that put you off. We will happily work with you to get yourself schooled up.
  • Front-end knowledge: Including HTML5, CSS3, LESS/SCSS/SASS, JS
  • Cross-browser testing: Ideally with device agnostic development
  • Good comprehension of web accessibility
  • Use of version control (eg: Git) and bug/issue tracking systems (eg. JIRA / Zoho)
  • Understanding of the principles and implementation of SEO
  • Website building: We always look to provide lightweight and lightning-quick websites for our clients.
  • Responsive best practices: a good understanding of the theory and how to actually implement them.

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience with the plethora of “popular” JS libraries / frameworks, such as React, Angular, jQuery, Greensock, Vue.js, D3.js etc.
  • Experience with server architecture
  • Working in small teams with experience / an interest in driving our future development.
  • Examples of work you’ve been involved in, or projects you’ve undertaken in your own time.
  • Experience / Interest in building an Amazon Alexa skill.

What’s in it for you:

When you join the h2o family, you’re getting more than just a career: you’re investing in your future and wellness.

Our benefits include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Very competitive salary
  • Working in a great, exciting and expanding team
  • Opportunity to grow within the role
  • Training (where required/requested)
  • Relaxed working environment
  • Working on engaging projects
  • Experiencing working with a variety of brands
  • Company Macbook Pro (or equivalent)
  • Quarterly team events
  • Flexibility with working environments (i.e working from home when required)
  • Wonderful music in the office

.NET Developer, 5+ years of experience

The role:

You would be working with the Development and Accounts teams to develop solutions in the form of web-based systems, web applications, websites, APIs, apps, widgets and other digital requirements for internal and external clients.

This will include research and development of specific solutions to technological challenges and keeping up-to-date skills in modern practices so that consultancy can be provided to clients and internal teams.

The technical bits:

Ideally, you’ll have at least 5 years’ experience with n-tier development in C# .NET 3.5+, .NET Core and extensive experience of Content Management Systems.

You’ll be able to provide examples of ASP.NET sites you’ve developed, explain the rationale behind architectural decisions and display experience of web site deployment using Windows Server 2012+.

Experience of creating and maintaining databases in Microsoft SQL Server (2008 or above) is a must, along with a working knowledge of stored procedures. Confidence in producing clean, accessible HTML and CSS/LESS/SASS/SCSS whilst harnessing other technologies where applicable (e.g. jQuery, Angular, React, Web APIs etc) is an essential element to the continued production of exciting, usable web projects at h2o.

Although a relevant degree-level qualification will be an advantage, actual industry work experience, preferably in a marketing agency or new media company, matters more to us.

What we’d like you to have:

  • 5+ years working experience: The projects you’ll be working on will be substantial and occasionally complex. As a result we’d like you have sufficient experience to take this in your stride.
  • Good communication skills: You’ll be working closely with our various teams to transform client briefs into a reality. Occasionally you’ll be required to liaise directly with clients to provide updates on projects. Ability to communicate effectively on progress to teams and clients, as well as highlighting any problems you encounter, means nobody gets an unpleasant surprise.
  • Critical thinking: Whilst we love our clients, they aren’t developers. If you think there is a better/more efficient solution than outlined in a client brief, we want you to have the confidence in your own ability to be able to suggest improvements and alternative methods, rather than blindly following orders.
  • Solid organisational skills: We’re busy. You may find yourself working on multiple projects simultaneously. Being able to manage your time to ensure that no proverbial balls get dropped is a skill you’ll need.

Technology Stack:

Below are the technologies we work with on a daily basis, so experience in the majority of these areas are a necessity. We do offer on-site and off-site training where necessary, so if you’re missing a few (excluding our custom CMS), don’t be disheartened.

  • Back-end:
    • C#
    • MVC
    • ASP.NET 3.5+
    • Microsoft SQL (all versions)
    • .NET Core
    • h2o bespoke CMS – LaunchPad
  • Front-end:
    • HTML5
    • CSS3 + Preprocessors such as LESS/SCSS/SASS
    • JavaScript (ES5/6)
    • Good comprehension of web accessibility
  • Use of version control: (eg: TFS / VSTS / GitHub) and bug/issue tracking systems (eg. JIRA / Zoho)
  • Cross-browser testing: Ideally with device agnostic development
  • Understanding of the principles and implementation of SEO
  • Website building: We always look to provide lightweight and lightning-quick websites for our clients.
  • Responsive best practices: a good understanding of the theory and how to actually implement them.
